Ljubljana Rudnik – a green, peaceful and diverse southern district

Rudnik is a southern district of Ljubljana, combining both suburban and distinctly rural parts of the city. The area lies between the right bank of the Ljubljanica and Golovce, which gives it a special combination of natural proximity and urban accessibility.

The district covers an area of ​​2,548 ha and has a population of 13,905 (2020).

Residential environment and character of the district

Rudnik consists of several smaller districts, including:

  • Rakovnik,
  • Spodnji and Zgornji Rudnik,
  • Galjevica,
  • Ilovica,
  • and the independent settlements of Črna vas and Lipe na Barju.

  • local associations, including the Ljubljana – Barje Volunteer Fire Department, which has a long tradition (its beginnings date back to 1895, official operations since 1922).

Rudnik is also the starting point for numerous recreational and natural spots on the Barje.

Transport connections

Rudnik is well connected to the city and surrounding municipalities. The following bus lines have their final stops in the quarter:

  • 3 and N3 (Rudnik interchange),
  • 27 (NS Rudnik).
  • Integrated lines connecting Ljubljana with surrounding areas also run through the area:
  • 3B, N3B (Škofljica),
  • 3G (Grosuplje),
  • 19B (Jezero – through Črno vas and Podpeč),
  • 19I (Iška vas – through Ig).

The quarter borders:

  • Center (Prule) to the north,
  • Golovec to the east,
  • Trnovo and Vič across the Ljubljanica,
  • Ig to the south,
  • Škofljica to the southeast,
  • Brezovica to the west
